Meet the Founder

Janice Chow is the Founder of Nyla Alyn and a breast cancer survivor. At the age of 24, she learned that she had the BRCA2 gene mutation and made the decision to undergo multiple prophylactic surgeries to minimize her risk of breast and ovarian cancer. Prior to her consultation appointment with a breast surgeon, she was scheduled for a mammogram, ultrasound, and MRI. In less than a week, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and the mastectomy changed from being part of her cancer prevention plan to her cancer treatment plan.

She began researching pre- and post-op tips for mastectomy recovery to help from being overwhelmed with the cancer diagnosis and discovered post-mastectomy bras with drain management being sold online. At the time, these bras seemed more of a luxury rather than a necessity. However, after multiple surgeries, she learned very quickly that a proper recovery bra was very much necessary for a comfortable recovery. The post-op bras provided by the hospital offered minimal comfort, had fixed straps, and had scratchy velcro sitting on top of her most sensitive areas. She became so fed up, she used her fashion design background and started sketching and researching bra ideas during her recovery because the potential for a better bra was far too great to be ignored.

Nyla Alyn was then founded to create bras that help make a breast surgery patient's recovery more comfortable. With over a decade of design and product development experience in the fashion industry and her personal experience with various breast surgeries, Janice set out to design a post-op bra with drain management and created the Signature Recovery Bra. It is made of soft materials, comfortable to wear, customizable to all body types, and is suitable for various breast surgeries. With the help of her team of physicians, this bra ensures that the medical needs of the patient are met, while also allowing for an efficient and comfortable recovery. Battling breast cancer and adjusting to the physical changes is sufficiently challenging, a post-op bra be a source of comfort and support in a patient's recovery.

Meet the Medical Team
